Project 4/ Scratch film

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se1lo9EaYsM&feature=plcp

For this project we looked at the work of Len Lye and Norman McLaren. The film is a combination of everyone's in the class consisting of different shapes and symbols. Due to the fact that the film runs so quickly drawing one detailed picture will not show up very well, that is why the majority of the film is lines and shapes.

Project 2/ Cycle Project

This was our second project the key frame cycle project. As a class we were supposed to add all these images together to create one video but I never got round to adding my piece. This project was straightforward, we just had to draw a object transforming into another object in seventeen images. I got two very basic objects a bat and a ball so I found it quite challenging to draw seventeen alternations but I managed it. The aim of this project was to show us how animation works, small alternations to create the affect that something is moving or in this case changing.

Project 3/ Anticipation

Here is my third project. We were told to make a short piece showing anticipation. During the lecture we were shown the 12 principles of animation from Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas and anticipation is one of them. I think more frames are needed in this video.

Project 1/ Introduction

This was the first project that we were given and it involved presenting a video about yourself just to show how much you knew or didn't know like me. We were allowed to use any techniques that we knew of when being asked to make this video. The video is bad quality because of the software I used and it wouldn't let me upload the actual clip so I had to record it with my camera. The software was Pivot stick man animator. I'm not hugely impressed with what I made but I don't think it is to bad due to the fact I didn't know much at the time. I figured that I would just keep it simple for the first project and that is why I decided on a stick man animation.

Project 6/ Pixilation

For this project we had to make a pixilated film based on recent news, I chose the football game between Manchester and Chelsea (the dinosaur doesn't have any significance I just thought it would be funny). To get an understanding of this technique we watched examples including Animated in bed, Neighbours and a PES advert which helped greatly showing us what we needed to do. One problem I found when using sticky-notes for this project is that they do not stick very well so I had to keep re-sticking them to the wall which became very annoying. I think this project turned out ok but not brilliantly, I wasn't very happy with the camera angle and how the film looked in video, I think it is too jumpy.

Project 10/ Stop Motion

This was the last project given to us and one that I quite enjoyed. We had to make a stop motion film using a model and the theme was love. The important point of this was to show the model moving its limbs so the audience will get more of a sense that it is alive. I chose a snake as a character because I thought it would be a good way to show the movement of a model like we were briefed to do. We were shown examples of stop motion being used most noticeably Cameraman's Revenge by Ladislaw Starwicz were he had used insects as his models to create his film. I think this project turned out pretty decent, I was happy with the movement of the snakes which I made out of simple clay making it easy to mold and move.

Project 7/ Smudge and Click animation

For our 7th project we had to do a smudge and click animation. I enjoyed this one, the theme of Halloween made it a lot of fun and it didn't take me as long as I thought it would, I should have made it longer though I think. During the session as a class we watched various videos on Youtube seeing this technique being used, the one that particularly stood out was the wall animation by MUTO that we all thought was very impressive due to the amount of time and dedication it would have taken to do. I found it difficult to keep my character the same size and shape through parts of the video but apart from that it was relatively straight forward. I also added sound to the project to make it spookier.

Project 5/ Shadow/Cut out animation

The task given was to create a Silhouette animation, we were told to look at the work of Lotte Reiniger at home to get more of an idea of what to do, unfortunately I forgot about this until the last minute so my animation was slightly different to the rest of the class. Saying that I was quite pleased with how this animation turned out. I drew then cut out my characters and placed them on a black background to which became a sort of opposite silhouette. I had to draw 8 eyes in total to achieve the blinking affect that I wanted and remove the legs from the body to give the impression that the character was moving.
